according to the Accessories Interchangeability Chart dated Feb 1945

The instrument is in very good condition given its age

The knob situated below the display on the indicator rotates to the oil tank display 1 thru 4 (see photo of display partially rotated)

hence the suction gauge in the upper right corner to indicate the performance status of the pneumatic system

Fuel Quantity Indicator, Front-Reserve Tanks, P-38 Lightning, GE 8DJ12LAN F-8 Crusader as it appears that ArmyHere is a fine specimen of a Fuel Quantity Indicator for the Reserve (Front) fuel tanks as used in versions of the infamous US Army Air Force twin tailed fighter P 38 Lightning, made by General Electric, Model 8DJ12LAN The P 38 had two fuel quantity indicators.. this was for the front reserve tanks, each holding 0 60 gals. The indicator has two pointers (the second one is barely visible in the photo as it rests behind the other) one for each tank. See
