Description
Tasted September 2016
these wines remarkable levity by contemporary dry German Riesling standards not to mention the standards of recent Rudesheimer Berg wines or the vintage is coupled with ravishing complexity and vintage-typical sheer generosity
A background whisper of wood sets off distinctly reduced aromas and it’s not clear that even extended aeration is going to completely dissipate them
A touch of wood sets off complex
it paints a path to where future vintages of Masseto are going as an expression of a vineyard and territory rather than just a strict read of one grape
Ballot Millot, Meursault Criots Brut Zero Tasted September 2016Here too there is just enough reduction to push the underlying fruit to the background save for a hint of the exotic. The sleeker and finer medium bodied flavors are not quite as powerful or concentrated but they do flash more evident minerality on the well detailed, balanced and lingering finish. This is an excellent villages and one that should amply repay 5 to 8 years of keeping.
